Social Media Engagement vs. Social Media Ads

Just like Traditional vs. Online marketing, Social Media Marketing (SMM) has two different strategies  based on the business's goals. To put it simply, businesses can choose to connect and engage with their customer or subject them to ads about there new or current products.

The images above clearly show the different between ads and engagement. The image on the left is from Nike's Instagram and is a perfect example of company can connect with buyers. In there case they show a picture about working out or demonstrating how many customers use there product. On the right is a Facebook ad specifically put up by Oyster. Here the goal is much different as they are seeking to get people to signup for their eBooks rather than connecting with the reading audience.
